Cancer Center expands opportunities for stem cells cord blood

Happy to report another step on the road to blood, umbilical cord!  This month, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington announced that have been successfully treating leukemia with the aid of blood, umbilical cord that has been manipulated in the laboratory to increase the number of useful stem cells.  The results of the phase I study Center have been published in the January 2010 issue of Nature Medicine.

Reprogramming stem cells cord blood

Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have been in the news a bit late, especially with the report on Chinese summer two studies indicating that stem cells created from adult mouse skin cells have the ability to regenerate in a similar way as embryonic stem cells obtained in both cases in the birth of a baby mouse.

The potential use of Cord Blood treatment of heart and lung disorders

Two new studies of animals, published in the current issue of cell transplantation shows that umbilical cord derived stem cells can have whom the heart and lungs.

We know that cord blood may help fight diseases and conditions and we also know that without it thousands of children would not be here today if it weren't for cord blood.  People seem to hesitate to consider this new age technology that can save a life. Because of the hesitation there are children who cannot go to see a new year begins.

Because nothing is free these days is hardly safe to say that the same is true for cord blood. But people don't mind paying for something that may end up saving a life. Most banks will charge an extra $ 50-$ 100 for the collection and the monthly fee for banking will run about $ 100 per month.

When you read the news you have noticed that there are several new topics about cord blood banking. When is collected cord blood

You may have heard all about cord blood donation and now want to know what happens after the umbilical cord. It takes the work of hospital staff, as well as the cord blood bank. It takes teamwork, but none of it would be possible if it were not for you. Once the decision to donate the cord blood that is the time to make preparations by calling the cord blood bank to make them aware of its decision.

If there is a match and the transplant center then checks all information delivered immediately before the transplant unit at the hospital.

Umbilical Cord Blood MSC Cells Shown to Inhibit Breast Cancer Growth, What Else?

Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been shown to inhibit breast cancer cell growth but it is not known whether this effect is specific to only breast cancer cells. Investigators compared the effects of human Wharton’s jelly stem cell (hWJSC) extracts [conditioned medium (hWJSC-CM) and cell lysate (hWJSC-CL)] on breast adenocarcinoma, ovarian carcinoma and osteosarcoma cells. The cells were treated with either hWJSC-CM (50%) or hWJSC-CL (15µg/ml) for 48 hours – 72 hours and changes in cell morphology, proliferation, cycle, gene expression, migration and cell death studied. All three cancer cell lines showed cell shrinkage, blebbing and vacuolations with hWJSC-CL and hWJSC-CM compared to controls.  MTT and BrdU assays showed inhibition of cell growth by 2%-6% and 30%-60% while Transwell migration assay showed inhibition by 20%-26% and 31%-46% for hWJSC-CM and hWJSC-CL respectively for all three cancer cell lines.
