Understand how you get the cord blood

4 April 2008

It is important when considering cord blood banking that you know everything you need to know to be sure of your decision. Today we have heard much more about cord blood then in the past. That is mainly because more and more people are starting to realize the importance of the umbilical cord.

The process of cord blood can make you undecided with not knowing exactly what to expect. If you are not sure about the procedure you can find more information below.

As a baby is born, the doctor or midwife will cleanse an area of umbilical cord about four to eight inches. This is done before the delivery of the placenta. After the area is cleaned with an antiseptic solution, a needle used specifically to draw blood is inserted into the vein and umbilical cord clean. Then of course the blood will flow in blood bag until you are done. Blood is taken even additional tubes so the blood can be tested thoroughly. After this is done the blood bag is sealed and labeled so it is ready to send to the Bank the cord blood.

This procedure does not affect the baby in any way. The child is already delivered and be cured. You're probably holding the child while being taken the umbilical cord. It's not bad either. At the end they made the right choice for your family's future. Congratulations!
